What students are saying:

“Alyson is an outstanding teacher. She is knowledgeable, experienced, dedicated. Alyson’s teaching style is warm and accepting. Her classes are packed with students of all body types, levels and abilities. She emphasizes the importance of the practice, not the end result, and always provides plenty of modifications and alternatives to advanced poses. She encourages students to work where they are today and to take what works for them at the moment. Her asana teaching emphasizes good physical form and combines it with plenty of opportunity to explore on your own. Alyson's classes foster a strong sense of community, where she is not afraid to disclose her own physical and emotional vulnerabilities: injuries, limitations, pain. And on the other hand, there is always shared laughter and those unexpected little things that make her classes so joyful: suggested sound effects to go with certain asanas, a well-timed joke that breaks down even the most severe yogini, that time we practiced to a Public Enemy playlist. (Yes we did. It was amazing). I always look forward to Alyson's next class.” - Yael M.

“Alyson is a truly talented and generous teacher who meets students where we are and guides us through our own discoveries. I met her as an injured runner who gasped through class and couldn’t sort out right from left. Over the years, Alyson has shown me how to deepen my practice on my own and in the community. The experience is life changing.” - Fawn J.

“While I have always sought a healthy balance between the mental and the physical benefits of yoga, Alyson helps her students dig deeper into the former without sacrificing the latter.

Additionally, perhaps like many in the Western world, I wasn’t very aware of the cultural aspects of the practice when I first started in college – even as someone of Indian origin.

As time went on and I continued experimenting with different kinds of classes and very different types of instructors, I eventually found that what I needed out of a teacher was someone who could acknowledge and impart the cultural significance of the practice in an accessible way without appropriating it.

Her ability to do exactly that – along with her commitment to continued growth and self-reflection about her role as a modern-day instructor of these ancient practices – is something I really admire about Alyson.

Finding the right teacher is instrumental for anyone in any endeavor, and the best teachers – Alyson among them – are intuitive; they’ve mastered that uncanny ability to pick up on whatever it is that their students need in any particular moment.

The silver lining of my pandemic experience is that she started offering live-streamed classes, because it meant that I could continue my journey with her even after I moved to the other side of the world.

Alyson started out as my favorite yoga teacher but she quickly became my friend as well, and it’s no surprise that she has a loyal following of students – the same faces from Realignment Studio that now appear in my Zoom gallery every week – who I’m certain feel the same way.” - Shirin K.
